Pankaj Sharma, Professor of Neurology at Royal Holloway University of London and Consultant Neurologist at Imperial College London, was named the UK’s top Asian medical doctor at the British Indian Awards 2015. The annual awards celebrate the achievements of leading British Asians in the UK. Along with the top doctor award, prizes were awarded to the Asian business man and woman of the year as well as entrepreneur of the year.

Professor Sharma’s work on researching into the genetic causes of stroke in Asians across the UK, Middle East and India was particularly cited, as well as his charity work in the stroke sector. Prof Sharma is a frequent media commentator on neurology and stroke related issues.

The award is seen here being presented by Asian representatives of the Royal Navy. “I am delighted and humbled to have received this award which particularly recognises the research and charity work my group and I have undertaken for stroke in the high risk Asian populations across the world. I accepted it on behalf of my team without whom this work would never have been, and continues to be, so successful”, said Sharma following his award.
